Cruisin'......

Hi Everyone!
I just want to let you know, this week will be verrrrry short on posts. I'm gonna be on a cruise!! I will still have access to email on my Blackberry so continue to send in your emails about the site. I love hearing from you all. I am returning to the site (and real life) on August 23. In the meantime, I invite you to read back to the beginning of TMFB in our archives and come back on August 23rd for an update and hopefully some pics and video from the cruise. I'll be sure to get pics of the Do's and Don't's of cruise-wear. Have a fantastic week!

Quick Tips.

Traveling? Here's a quick tip to help keep your luggage light.

For weekend getaways and short business trips, only pack one pair of pants. That's right....ONE pair. If you pick the right jeans or slacks, you can mix and match with different shirts, tees, sweaters and blazers. For example, the right pair of straight-leg or skinny jeans can look great when worn slightly rolled up with Converse and just as good when rolled down with classic wingtips.

Also, if you're flying, wear your blazer/sportcoat so it won't get wrinkled in your luggage.

In days when airlines are charging extra for your baggage to travel with you, I hope this tip will keep you traveling right and light.

Drink of the Week.

I'm very happy to announce that TheMensFashionBlog.com now has a Designer Drink Guru. Collin Miller has created a fantastic drink menu for the Oasis Lounge at the Plaza Theatre here in El Paso. Using the films being shown during this years film festival as inspiration, Collin has mixed up something to accompany any one of your favorite movies.

As Paulina (TMFB photographer) and I sat at the bar, Collin made us the delectable "Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious"; a carrot cake martini that is part of the Mary Poppins section of the menu. We also enjoyed the "Fred & Ginger" for the Top Hat section and another Mary Poppins selection, the "Spoonful of Sugar". He also used us as his test subjects for his deliciously limey Key Lime Pie martini, which is not yet on the menu.

If you're in El Paso, I highly suggest you stop by the Oasis Lounge, directly next to the Plaza Theatre, and enjoy a sandwich and (a few) delicious drinks created by Collin Miller.

Today, as Collin's first Drink of the Week selection, he presents to us the "Blueberry Muffin" from the Breakfast at Tiffany's section of the Oasis Lounge's special Film Festival drink menu.
Equal Parts
Vanilla Vodka
Blueberry Vodka
Splash of Frangelico
Shake and Enjoy! (Garnish with 3 fresh blueberries)

Quick Tips.

This weekend, I discovered something quite valuable. You see, in the past 3 weeks, I've lost 10 lbs and about 11 inches around my "midsection".
My dilemma: T-shirts. I do usually buy size Medium t-shirts but I've found that, regardless of the brand, t-shirts shrink. Sizes vary, no matter what the label says, from brand to brand.
My solution: Find a t-shirt that fits just right and buy one size bigger. Go home and before wearing it, wash it in hot water and tumble-dry on low heat.

I tested my theory this weekend on about 5 t-shirts that I just recently purchased and have not yet washed. 1 from Alex&Chloe, the rest from Target. The results were juuust right! I tried them on before and they were loose and not well fitting. After, they fit perfectly with the exception of a couple being just slighty too long for my taste.

Considering that many of the designer and pricier t-shirts tend to shrink (no matter how you wash them) this little tip could come in handy next time you're shopping for t-shirts.

Film Festival.

Today marks the beginning of El Paso's Plaza Classic Film Festival. Running for 10 days (Aug. 6-16), the festival will be bringing some old favorites back to the big screen. Last year, I had the pleasure of watching a few movies there and it really was like watching them all for the first time. To have them presented on the big screen, the way they were meant to be seen, is truly a unique experience.

Just a few of the movies this year are Some Like It Hot, Goldfinger, Bride of Frankenstein, Reservoir Dogs and Gone with the Wind [which coincidentally celebrates it's 70th anniversary this year]. Movies will be shown in the restored Kendle Kidd Performance Hall and the smaller Philanthropy Theatre. A few movies will even be shown outdoors in the Arts Festival Plaza. These films include: A Hard Day's Night, Blazing Saddles and The Rocky Horror Picture Show, patrons are even encouraged to dress the part!

If you're looking for something to do this coming week in El Paso, definitely check this out.

Tickets are available on Ticketmaster.com and at the Plaza Box Office. Prices range from Free[for the outdoor showings] to $6 [for Kendle Kidd Performance Hall evening shows].

Check out the full listing of Movies and showtimes HERE.

Action!!

Drink of the Week.

Vodka/Tonic

Perhaps one of the simplest drinks to make, and one of the best. Use the right vodka (*cough, CIROC cough cough) and a twist of lime and you're sure to have a drink to please any palette.

2oz. vodka [preferrably Ciroc... ;-)]
3-5oz tonic
lime

Mix and serve over ice.

FineAndDandyShop.com

Every once in a while, I like to look just a little bit sharper than usual. A great way to do this? Accessories. Now I know I've done Accessorize! posts but none like this.

The classically-styled touch that comes with the right cufflinks, hat or even an ascot takes you right back to the days of The Great Gatsby.

A few of my faves on the site (and definitely on my wishlist!!) are:

The Lee&Allison Black and SIlver Polka Dot bowtie. Diamond Tip. 100% Silk.

Junior Vasquez modeling for Hommework at the 2009 Bring It Downtown Fashion Event

That's right, y'all...TheMuthaEffingPrince.com. Junior Vasquez describes his site as "Perez HIlton...without the hypocrisy". I feel that it has more than that. He's got so much more personality than PH and doesn't take his personal aggressions with people out on his blog. I really enjoy all his "...of the Day" posts. You just can't help but laugh along with THIS LOL of the Day. To catch up on the latest Hollywood dirt, definitely bookmark TheMuthaEffingPrince.com.

Spotted at the Bring It Downtown Fashion Event on July 26, 2009.

EIC: I'm really into John Varvatos. I dig his stuff, I like his style.

TMFB: Must-Have Item for any guys' closet?

EIC: A good pair of jeans.

EIC: I'm really diverse....really into everything.

Tech of the Week.

So, if you remember my I Want It! post, you'll know that I've been jonesing for a Kindle. Well, much to my delight, Barnes & Noble has recently released an eBook reader for Blackberry. Now I can keep my current reading selection on hand for just the right moment of boredom!

You can purchase new books directly from your device (currently available on iPhone/iPod Touch, PC, Mac and Blackberry) and instantly download them to your available memory. Mine go directly to my memory card so if I need to switch devices, my books go with me.

Upon download, you also receive 6 free eBooks, including a handy Merriam-Webster dictionary. Click HERE to find out more about it and to download it.

I'm definitely using this while tanning on my cruise (only 3 weeks away!!).

5 Minutes with TMFB.

As our first "5 Minutes with TMFB", I'm very happy to share a great site with you all. In order to bring consumer closer to retailer, Matt Fox, shopkeeper of FineAndDandyShop.com, answers five questions for us.

TheMensFashionBlog: What was your inspiration for FineAndDandyShop.com?

Matt Fox: I've always been somewhat of a dandy myself. I was the kid in high school who always wore a tie. In most of my adult life, I fantasized about opening up a men's clothing store. About a year and a half ago I had the idea to open up shop online.

TMFB: As far as wardrobe goes, what does every man need?

MF: Every guy needs three great-fitting suits in black, brown, and navy. Mix them up with some great accessories and you'll have an enviable wardrobe.

TMFB: Who's your Style Icon?

MF: My grandfather. He was very stylish, really. Quite the dandy, without even knowing it. He never left the house without looking impeccable.

TMFB: Give us your Fashion Horror Story/Nightmare...

MF: Years ago, I bought a new tuxedo just in time to attend the Tony Awards. I picked it up from my tailor the day before and made the mistake of not trying it on. The night of the Tonys, I got dressed and the pants were way too short, noticeably so. This was pre-Thom Browne short pants days so I couldn't even say it was intentional.

TMFB: Have you got any style tips for our readers? Possibly something to make our lives just a tad more Fine and Dandy...

MF: My advice to guys is always to be the best-dressed man in the room. It's always better to be 10% overdressed than 10% underdressed. Maybe some of your buddies will give you a hard time about being overdressed but people will take you more seriously.

Thanks to Matt Fox of FineAndDandyShop.com!
